Presentation Description:  The purpose of a fall management program is to provide the resident with the opportunity to achieve the highest level of safe functional mobility and prevent falls. Fall prevention programs provided to older adults have the potential to be highly cost-effective compared with current practice. The implementation of a quality fall prevention programs can improve the overall health and quality of life for the residents in your community. This seminar will describe innovative approaches to fall management programs. The webinar will explain and discuss the benefits of the Otago Exercise Program, Matter of Balance, and yoga/tai chi and how these programs can be implemented in your community.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the background and scope of falls in long-term care settings (including assisted and independent living communities).
  • Explain the purpose and essential elements of a fall prevention program.
  • Execute key components of the research based Otago Exercise Program (OEP).
